Ethical Lingerie

Do you buy lingerie for Valentine’s day? It isn’t really my thing.  I’ve thought about doing it, but I just don’t know how. In movies women go into the bathroom right before bed and come out all dressed up & pose in the doorway. If I did that my spouse would fall asleep and when I came out he would be out cold snoring. If I did it earlier in the evening it would take me 2 hours to get ready. I spend most of my days in comfy clothing (pajamas/ gym clothes) no make-up, hair not done. There is no time that I could just go to the washroom put on lingerie do my hair and makeup and my significant other wouldn’t notice. If I went to the washroom and was in there more than 5 min he would knock on the door and ask if I had the shits. If I was all dolled up when he got home, he would probably be caught off guard and laugh and then I would laugh, it just wouldn’t be very sexy. And if I did do that, what would I do, just sit on the couch half-naked, do I smile? I don’t know, the whole idea of dressing up and then just presenting myself like “ Look how sexy I am, now its time for the sex ” it is weird to me. The whole thing makes me very uncomfortable which is odd because I am a very sexually confident person. I’ve accepted lingerie is just not my calling, but my situation is not everyone’s. I know a lot of woman who buy lingerie every year, and it makes them feel sexy and confident, if you are one of those woman, this post is for you.

When you are thinking about sexy time the first thing that pops into your head is not usually ethics. Nothing kills the mood like thinking about sweat shops. If you are like most people you have always just gone where you know, Victoria Secret. Unfortunately Victoria secret is possibly the worst place to shop if you care about workers making a livable wage or working in safe conditions. They don’t sell larger sizes or larger bra sizes, and to top it off with all the cultural appropriation in the runway shows year after year, there really isn’t any reason to support a brand that continuously shows that they do not care about people, at all. So, don’t give your hard-earned money to a company that doesn’t give a shit about anything but themselves, go grab some sexy outfits that are ethical & sustainable, and inclusive to all body types.

Here is a list of companies that are worth giving your money to,

MeUndies

I currently buy my underwear and my partners underwear from MeUndies. They don’t really have fancy lingerie but they do have very comfortable thongs, boy shorts, and bralettes that come in sizes up to 2XL. They are the most comfortable underwear I have ever worn and I can’t say enough good things about them.

Harlow & Fox

My personal favourite. If I was going to be purchasing lingerie this year it would be from them. There bras are made for a larger chest sizes 30-38 DD-G. There sets are stunning, vintage vibes. I am in love.
