Live-Clean Product Review

When I give advice to people on “how to go vegan”, I always say “plan ahead”. If you know you will need purchase something in the future, or you know you will need to eat out, it’s better to research ahead of time to know your options and gives you time to thoroughly research a product or brand. Most products for hair, body, skin, I order online. It is the easiest way to compare prices, do research on ingredients or ethics, without having to drive to 10 stores and awkwardly read labels all day. But of course, me being me, I didn’t take my own advice recently, and I got stuck with no shampoo or conditioner, or face wash. Adulting isn’t my strong suit. So, I took a trip to my local drug store. ( Shoppers Drug Mart). I didn’t have high hopes. The last time I went there to find regular body wash or bar soap that was vegan, out of 50 different options, I didn’t find any that didn’t test on animals let alone vegan. Luckily this trip I was pleasantly surprised. I came across a brand I hadn’t seen before “Live Clean”. I stood in the isle blocking people from walking past me while I quickly googled the company, I read the following.

  • The company is certified cruelty free by the leaping bunny.
  • Ingredients are 98% plant-based
  • Eco Friendly

“Live Clean is completely vegan or vegetarian (determined by individual product), plant and natural based, with no animal products used in the formulations.  Live Clean is also cruelty-free; none of the products or their ingredients have been tested on animals. In its sensitivity to the environment, Live Clean is also free of phosphates, known contributors to water pollution.  And our packaging, of course, is eco-friendly” Excerpt from LiveClean.com

Sounded fantastic, I was so excited that these products were so readily available and at such a good cost. I grabbed their shampoo, conditioner, face wash, as well as a leave in argan oil. I was pretty excited about my finds, for the time being..

Live Clean, Exotic Nectar, Argan Oil, Restorative Shampoo

This shampoo says:

  • Plant derived
  • Organic Botanicals
  • SLS sulphate free
  • Phthalate free
  • phosphate free
  • pure vegan

It states it will give you long-term conditioning shine and UV protection. I don’t know about that. It smelt great, but left my hair dry. I knew after the first use that it wasnt for me. I do not recommend.

Live Clean, Exotic Nectar, Argan Oil, Restorative Conditioner

  • Plant derived
  • Organic Botanicals
  • SLS sulphate free
  • Phthalate free
  • phosphate free
  • Vegetarian Formula

The conditioner says it “Hydrates and nourishes without leaving behind or adding any access weight” . I disagree with that, but it did smell great. It left my hair dry, and unmanageable. Brushing my hair after my shower was not easy. I wasnt thrilled with this purchase. Because I am trying not to be wasteful these days, I finished the product anyways.

It wasnt until a few months later, being a more experienced vegan (lol) that I realized that even though a company says “ No animals harmed” “ Plant Ingrientients” “Eco friendly” that does not necessarily mean a product is vegan. I began double checking all the products I had bought in the last 6 months and discovered a few of them did in fact contain animal ingredients 😦 I realized that although the Live Clean shampoo I was using was vegan, the conditioner was NOT. It contains cera alba beeswax. Of course going back and reading the label I noticed that it said it was “vegetarian formula” and not Vegan. I think that at the time I must have assumed that because the shampoo was vegan that the conditioner must be also. I also remember I quickly scanning the label I read “curnauba wax”, I knew that was a vegan wax, so I assumed, if they used a vegan wax why would they add in beeswax and make it not vegan? I was disappointed, but live and learn I guess. Onto the other product. the next two are vegan. Although I only recommend the one.

Live-Clean (Fresh Face) Daily Cleanser

Live clean (fresh face) foaming daily cleanser, states

  • Plant derived

  • Petroleum free
  • Silicone free
  • Mineral oil free
  • Paraben free
  • Phthalate free
  • Pure vegan
  • Dye free
  • With essential oils
  • Never tested on animals
  • Package recyclable
  • Biodegradable ingredients
  • DEA free
  • Phosphate free

It claims to clean pores, remove makeup and excessive oils, and that the formula is mild. I can say it did remove makeup and oil, it basically striped my skin of all natural oils and left my skin-tight and uncomfortable. I felt like my skin would crack it was so dry. I continued using it for a week and then gave up. I would not recommend it even if you are in desperate need of a face wash.

This is a leave in conditioning oil, made with 100% argan oil made for “Enhanced long term conditioning shine and UV protection”. It smells of a light sweet vanilla, and the smell stays in your hair long after your hair dries. It is beautiful. You apply a few drops onto the length of your hair when you get out of the shower, it makes your hair easy to brush, as well leaves it shiny when dried. Do not use too much or too close to roots or it will leave your hair looking greasy. Over all I love this product and will be repurchasing. Go figure this is the only product I really liked and it seems to be discontinued on thier website. I was still able to find it in Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexal, Amazon.ca, and Walmart.ca
