My Current Go-To Vegan Lunch (Spicy Chickpea Cream Cheeze wrap)

I seem to have no issue finding breakfast and dinner ideas. But when it comes to lunches I end up drawing a blank. Its winter time here in Toronto, and its freezing. Eating a salad for lunch is just comforting at all, but eating left over pasta everyday will leave me extra fluffy in spring time lol. So I have found myself making this wrap pretty often. It has the veggies we need, but also some bulk and warmth that we crave when its cold out. Hope you enjoy 🙂 Ingredients Can of chick peas 540mL Tortillas ( I used 10 inch) Lettuce, or spinach 1 Red pepper Smoked paprika Franks Red Hot or, a vegan buffalo sauce. Daiya cream cheese. Chive & onion. 1 Sliced red onion   Step 1: Rise off a can of chickpeas.   Step 2: In a frying pan, add rinsed chick peas. Keep on low heat for a-few minutes to help evaporate some of the excess moisture. Add buffalo or hot sauce ( I use 2 tbsp, I would add 4-5 but my partner hates spicy foods) So load up on sauce if you like bold flavour, or take it easy if you want a mild warmth. Add 1/2 tsp smoked paprika + salt and pepper to taste.  Leave for 10 min, stirring occasionally.   Step 3: Take your tortilla and begin to apply cream cheese. If you are really watching your weight, do a […]

Live-Clean Product Review

When I give advice to people on “how to go vegan”, I always say “plan ahead”. If you know you will need purchase something in the future, or you know you will need to eat out, it’s better to research ahead of time to know your options and gives you time to thoroughly research a product or brand. Most products for hair, body, skin, I order online. It is the easiest way to compare prices, do research on ingredients or ethics, without having to drive to 10 stores and awkwardly read labels all day. But of course, me being me, I didn’t take my own advice recently, and I got stuck with no shampoo or conditioner, or face wash. Adulting isn’t my strong suit. So, I took a trip to my local drug store. ( Shoppers Drug Mart). I didn’t have high hopes. The last time I went there to find regular body wash or bar soap that was vegan, out of 50 different options, I didn’t find any that didn’t test on animals let alone vegan. Luckily this trip I was pleasantly surprised. I came across a brand I hadn’t seen before “Live Clean”. I stood in the isle blocking people from walking past me while I quickly googled the company, I read the following. The company is certified cruelty free by the leaping bunny. Ingredients are 98% plant-based Eco Friendly “Live Clean is completely vegan or vegetarian (determined […]

LUSH Mini Haul & Review

Everything about Lush makes me happy. I love being able to shop and see the “V”  vegan logo displayed clearly next to each product. There is no confusion over its ingredients or if it was tested on animals. The ingredients are always fair trade and ethically sourced, their packing is made from recyclable products, the prices are great, and there is always a sale. Lush even has a new line out called ” Naked” that has zero packaging. It is currently all sold out though. My only complaint with Lush is their scents can be too overpowering. A lot of their products have a hippie-ish type aroma. By hippie-ish I mean essential oils and flowers. I usually lean towards more of a sensual musky, vanilla wood type smells, so walking into a Lush store can be a bit overwhelming for me. I’m not exaggerating, 2 minutes in and I feel like im going to throw up coupled with a headache that doesn’t go away for hours. This limits me to shopping online and guess purchasing based on reviews, their top notes and featured ingredients. Some descriptions are dead on but some are confusingly and the complete opposite of what I expected. This weeks order had some amazing products that I immediately reordered and some products that were “Meh”. Most importantly yes, they are all vegan. Rehab shampoo $13.95 CAD (100 ml) The smell is not something I would normally gravitate too, but after reading […]

Vegan Vacation (Rui Playa Blanca Panama)

This past vacation was my first trip travelling vegan, I can’t say I wasn’t a little worried about what my food situation would be like in a different country. Food for me has always been a comfort. I know its bad but I anxiety eat, a lot, and being away from home I tend to overindulge even more than I usually do. Looking in my fridge before I left, I realized a-lot of my staple foods that made it easier for me to transition to being vegan were things from the health foods store. I wouldn’t have my vegan butter, or my Veganaise for sandwiches. No more silk coconut vanilla creamer for my coffee, no vegan cookies or cake, no meat or cheese substitutes, WHAT WOULD I DO? I’ve never had a life changing experience at a resort buffet eating meat or dairy, so I couldn’t imagine limiting my choices further would end in anything but starvation. I figured being at a larger resort my options would be a little better than a smaller chain, and I was right. We stayed at the RUI chain in Panama. As with my previous experiences at larger chains, for every meal, I would usually find one or two things I liked, and would stick to that for the rest of the week. While being vegetarian id load my plate up on pizza, mashed potatoes, pasta with cheese, bread and butter. Now I didn’t have […]

What’s Vegan at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ)?

My partner and I travel quite a bit. This past Christmas vacation was my first travelling experience being Vegan. During the time I was vegetarian, finding food when I was out was never an issue. I really didn’t need to research food options before going anywhere. Being vegan has been a different story. It can be fairly stressful to be somewhere new, starving, and have to search for something you can eat. Before I left for the airport this trip, I quickly searched online for what my options would be at the airport ( I anxiety eat, I hate flying) I found 1 or 2 places I knew, and figured that would suffice-well it wasn’t. I forgot that we wouldn’t have access to all terminals. As well, the 2 places I found were located before customs. We raced to check in, went through customs and realized that we were now going to starve. Well, not quite but it felt like that at the time. So back online I went. Pearson’s website has a food finder under the title “Food & drink” You can put the terminal you are in, pre security or after, international or Canadian. There is a search bar you can type in exactly what it is you are looking for. So I typed in “ vegan,” But of course only vegetarian options showed up. While at the airport, I looked up 2 or 3 places then began the […]

My Vegan Journey/Why This Blog Exists

My Journey Grab a coffee, this is a lengthy first post 🙂  I made the decision to go vegan 6 months ago, after 2 years of being vegetarian. Since going vegan my entire life has changed. That may sound dramatic to those of you reading this who have not yet made the switch, but anyone who is currently vegan, I can guarantee will agree with me. Once you go vegan you almost revert back to a childlike state. To the person you were before the world hardened you, before the world told you what to think and right and wrong. You begin to trust your intuition again. You begin to see the things you have in common with people instead of only seeing their differences. You begin to empathize with strangers, with all living beings. You begin to feel more deeply, and not be afraid of those emotions. You begin to respect yourself as well as the world around you. You don’t take yourself, your body or others for granted. Going through this major life change has been the most important thing I’ve done thus far. I feel incredibly grateful for this journey that, at the beginning was bit of an emotional rollercoaster. I am starting this blog to share what I’ve learned as I feel like its my duty to pass these things along. When I first went vegan I admit, I was worried I would be living a very […]
